ThermoWise, working with Eskom, will save an old age home in Durban more than R1.6 million in electricity costs over the next five years.
Bronwynn Fine, sales director at ThermoWise – a company that specialises in energy solutions, explains. “In April 2010, Eskom was commissioned by the old age home to log and monitor the monthly electrical consumption for the establishment’s hot water system. After thorough investigation and analysis, Eskom and ThermoWise recommended the installation of three air-to-water heat pumps to optimise electricity savings at the old age home.
“These environmentally friendly heat pumps significantly increase the energy savings that have already been achieved by the solar water heating system installed at the home.
“All ThermoWise heat pumps guarantee savings of 50% on electricity used to heat water. In this installation, however, as in many others, savings of 64% have been achieved.”
The maximum load measured at the establishment was 55.7kW, with an average load of 43.11kW. With the installation of three 19kW output units, each using only 5kw input power, the maximum load was reduced to just 13.8kW.
For optimum efficiency and extended service life, the casing of the Thermowise heat pumps used in this installation – with treated sheet metal and a dry powder coating – was also given an additional anti-corrosion treatment and carries a three-year warranty. The aluminium blue-finned coils, also with anti-corrosion treatment, have a five-year warranty. The scroll compressors, robust shell and tube heat exchangers all enhance the efficiency of the system and ensure extended working periods between maintenance intervals.
All components of the system, including the electrical components and fan blades, are manufactured to international quality specifications.
ThermoWise air-to-water heat pumps are designed for use in diverse applications, including hospitals, hostels, boarding establishments, hotels, lodges and business premises. The company provides a comprehensive technical analysis service to guarantee the viability and efficiency of each installation it undertakes.
