Raised deck flooring

Raised deck flooring refers to an elevated platform constructed above ground level, usually attached to a building or existing structure. It has become a popular choice for homeowners and commercial spaces alike, offering a range of benefits and adding both aesthetic and functional value to outdoor areas including rooftops.

One of the primary advantages of raised deck flooring is its versatility. It provides a flexible space that can be utilized for various purposes, such as outdoor entertainment, dining, relaxation, or even as an extension of indoor living spaces. Whether it’s hosting a summer braai, enjoying a morning cup of coffee, or simply basking in the beauty of the outdoors, a raised deck provides the ideal setting.

In terms of design, raised deck flooring offers countless possibilities. It can be customized to complement the architectural style of the building or blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The choice of materials, pavers or tiles for example, allow for different looks and finishes.

Another key advantage of raised deck flooring is its ability to overcome uneven terrain. By constructing an elevated platform, it eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming ground levelling. Whether the ground is sloping, rocky, or unsuitable for traditional outdoor flooring, a raised deck provides a level and stable surface for outdoor activities.

Furthermore, raised deck flooring increases the usable space of a property. It effectively expands the living area, providing an additional outdoor room that can be enjoyed year-round. This is particularly beneficial for smaller properties or urban settings where space is limited. It allows homeowners to maximize their outdoor space without compromising on comfort or style.

Maintenance and longevity are important considerations for any outdoor structure, and raised deck flooring excels in both areas. With regular cleaning and minimal upkeep, it can withstand the elements and remain in excellent condition for years. ensuring a long-lasting investment.

Union Tiles offers different options for raised decking, and for the environmentalist, offers a raised “cradle deck” flooring system with unique water harvesting application using raised cement pavers.

Sustainability is the key feature of a new outdoor raised flooring application which is laid on recycled truck tyres and will harvest vast volumes of rainwater. This system is exceptionally environmentally friendly.

The InstaCradle system is comprised of cement pavers (600 x 600 x 40mm) which are loosely placed on top of rubber cradles (small square rubber feet) made from recycled truck and car tyres, combined with a weather proof aluminium support structure. The height of the raised paving slab can vary from 90 – 245mm under the pavers. The pavers are “free” floating and not joined with grout, thus allowing the rainwater to flow through the gaps between the pavers. The cradles are also fully recyclable and the pavers can be lifted if they or the cradles need to be replaced.

The purpose of this elevated outdoor flooring system is to allow rainwater to drain off the pavers and to direct water flow away from the building, to be collected at drainage points and be potentially re-used as grey water elsewhere.

The pavers can be manufactured in various colours and textures to suit the building.

In conclusion, raised deck flooring offers a multitude of advantages, combining functionality, aesthetics, and adaptability. Whether it’s providing an inviting space for outdoor gatherings, extending the living area, or overcoming uneven terrain, a raised deck enhances the overall appeal and value of any property. Its versatility, design options, and durability make it an excellent choice for creating an outdoor oasis that can be enjoyed for years to come.
