Hanlie Turner, marketing manager at the Cement & Concrete Institute (C&CI), says that as a building material for housing concrete is fire-resistant, rot-proof, durable, and can be used in a wide variety of applications. Turner says concrete is found from top to bottom in housing: in foundations, floors, structural frames, walls, roof slabs, and roof cladding. It is also used in partitions, paths, patios, driveways, drains, retaining walls and fences, among other applications.
