Correctional Services construction projects to go ahead

Tumi Dlamini, executive director of MBSA, has welcomed government’s commitment to start the long-awaited prison building projects this year.Master Builders South Africa (MBSA) has welcomed indications that the long-awaited building of new correctional services facilities is likely to go ahead soon.

MBSA recently had what it described as extremely positive discussions with the former Minister of Correctional Services, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula. In her Budget Vote Speech soon afterwards, the minister confirmed that the construction of six new correctional services centres will begin during 2012 and another 12 are to follow in subsequent years.

Ai-Tec recently installed a new 1.8 ton horizontal boiler to replace the existing boiler at the Nelspruit Prison in Mpumalanga.Advanced Industrial Technology – Ai-Tec – a company that specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of industrial and commercial equipment, has recently completed a project for the Department of Correctional Services that involved the replacement of the existing boiler at the Nelspruit Prison.

Arnold Retief, a director of Ai-Tec, says, “A new John Thompson 1.8 ton horizontal boiler, which uses steam as an efficient source of heat generation, has been installed at the prison to improve the hot water system at the establishment. This modern boiler system provides steam to the kitchen, laundry and hot water supply at the prison. With an improved steam output the boiler provides for more efficient heat generation.”
