Shumanie Construction, a relatively new member of the Gauteng Master Builders Association, is an emerging construction company that places social responsibility and skills transfer high on its list of priorities.  Led by CEO Irene Gumbo, the Kempton Park-based company has gained experience in general building, project management, infrastructure and facilities maintenance and management. Shumanie has already won several awards, including both the national and Gauteng 2006 ‘Govan Mbeki Emerging Contractor of the Year’ awards, the Gauteng 2006 ‘Govan Mbeki Previously Disadvantaged Contractor of the Year’ award, and the Gauteng 2009 ‘Govan Mbeki Non-Subsidy Builder of the Year’ award.

With the home-building market showing the first signs of recovery from the economic downturn, hollow-core concrete floor panel manufacturer Echo Floors has established a separate, focused, operating department geared specifically to serve this sector. Located at the company’s manufacturing plant near Muldersdrift in Gauteng, the new unit is offering a package of specialised solutions for building contractors and for homeowners planning alterations and additions.
