Seaqual BuddyBats 22mm Pipe Anchors / Pipe Fixings

BuddyBats are pipe anchors. Their function is to reduce water hammer caused by vibrations in pipes. Buddy Bats are available in 5 different colours: Black, Brown, White, Red & Blue. They can assist with pipe identification – Red for hot water pipes and Blue for cold water pipes. White BuddyBats can be painted if used on external walls. Brown is traditionally used for copper or brown polycop pipes. Brown & Black are the most UV stabilised of all the colours and can be used for external pipe-work, although it is recommended that Nylon BuddyBats are rather used for this application.

When you want concrete that ‘leaks like a sieve’

With ever-increasing urbanisation and the resultant sprawl of rooftops and hard-surfaced landscapes, the effective management of storm water drainage has become increasingly difficult. The risk of flash floods escalates and the impact of rapid runoff on natural watercourses can cause serious environmental damage.  Lafarge Readymix  has launched Hydromedia™, a new, fast-draining concrete pavement solution to address this problem in South Africa. Hydromedia provides for rapid storm water removal from streets, parking areas, driveways, walkways and other hard surfaced areas. It offers a drainage medium that enables rainwater to return to and replenish groundwater reserves locally and it can reduce the costs and long-term maintenance requirements of storm water management systems – for public authorities and private property owners.

Water conservation where it counts

South Africa staged its National Water Week campaign from 5 to 11 March 2012 and the United Nations International World Water Day is coming up on 22 March. Ahead of the events lined up for National Water Week, the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa, called on all South Africans to make a positive contribution towards conserving and protecting the country’s water resources. She noted that these already scarce resources are further threatened by high levels of pollution in dams and rivers and by the extent of water wastage that occurs in our homes and cities, in industry and agriculture.  While government at national level deals with water policy, water quality and the development of major water supply schemes, when it comes to water conservation and the wise use of this precious resource it seems that the focus unavoidably shifts to local authorities. Indeed at a local level every one of us can do something to save water and reduce water wastage – in our homes and workplaces at least. At the same time, it seems fair to expect that local authorities, and specifically local water authorities, could do more to minimise water losses.
