SAICE Technical Divisions Projects Awards for excellence in civil engineering

Winners were announced in three categories - SAICE National Projects, SAICE Technical Divisions Projects and SAICE Institutional Awards - at the prestigious SAICE Awards gala event. The event, celebrating the Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievements for 2012/2013 was held at Emperors Palace in Gauteng on 17 October. This year SAICE received 35 project entries from across the country – a new record in SAICE history.

Consulting engineers embracing transformation

Consulting engineering practice UWP Consulting has achieved Level 2 contributor status on the Department of Trade and Industry’s Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) scorecard, with a 125% score on preferential procurement. UWP has moved up from Level 4 in 2009 and 2010 with the most significant improvements in its scores being for enterprise development and socio-economic development. The company also scored well in black ownership, due partly to a shift in ownership by black women, as well as in skills development and preferential procurement, receiving maximum points allocation for the latter.
