The award-winning students in the 4th Caesarstone Design Competition were announced at the beginning of September. The brief for this year’s design competition, Real & Simple, was conceptualised by architect Janina Masojada of Design Workshop SA. It invited the students to design “a place for the range of what our lives are about” and called for the design of a single space of mixed use and multi-functionality: “a place to sleep, eat, live, work and ultimately express our souls”. The annual Caesarstone Design Competition has now become one of the premier student design competitions in South Africa. This was reflected in the much higher number of entries received this year, from students of interior design and architecture at education institutions around the country. There were nine finalist projects selected, the work being that of students from the BHC School of Design, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Pretoria and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
