Award-winning design students

The award-winning students in the 4th Caesarstone Design Competition were announced at the beginning of September.  The brief for this year’s design competition, Real & Simple, was conceptualised by architect Janina Masojada of Design Workshop SA. It invited the students to design “a place for the range of what our lives are about” and called for the design of a single space of mixed use and multi-functionality: “a place to sleep, eat, live, work and ultimately express our souls”. The annual Caesarstone Design Competition has now become one of the premier student design competitions in South Africa. This was reflected in the much higher number of entries received this year, from students of interior design and architecture at education institutions around the country. There were nine finalist projects selected, the work being that of students from the BHC School of Design, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Pretoria and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

It’s been 20 years since PG Bison first launched its interior design competition for students. Jason Wells, brand manager at PG Bison, says, “We see this competition as integral to our business and stand behind its ongoing development. Over the past 20 years the competition has adapted and seen its share of change, but the essential elements remain: a focus on design and creativity and the nurturing of young design talent. “The competition is also one of the ways in which we stay in touch and in tune with the requirements of our customers and we will continue to strengthen this link as the competition moves forward.”
