The overall winner and the winning projects in each of the different categories of Steel Awards 2011 reflect the outstanding quality of the steel construction industry in all its diversity. Dr Hennie de Clercq, executive director of the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC), said at the awards ceremony, “We congratulate the winners and, at the same time, emphasise the exceptional quality of all the entries, which augurs so well for the future of our industry.”  The Steel Awards, hosted by the SAISC, with the Aveng Group as the main sponsor, were staged simultaneously in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town on 15th September 2011.

This year’s Steel Awards, presented by the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) and announced on 15th September, range from a railway station in Durban to the steel headgear for a mining ventilation shaft in Gauteng, from a pedestrian bridge in Cape Town to a King’s college in the North West, and from the Athletes Village in Maputo to a skywalk in Johannesburg.

The future of steel construction worldwide will be discussed at a top-level conference in Johannesburg on March 2013. The SteelFuture Conference, organised by the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC), brings together leading minds in the local and international steel industry. 

Zip-Tek from Global Roofing Solutions was specified for the cladding of the challenging roof design of Kasane Airport. The striking, winding metal roof was the winner of the Metal Cladding Award at the SAISC Steel Awards 2017.

The highlight of the structural steel industry calendar, the 35th Annual Steel Awards hosted by the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction in partnership with BSi Steel, took place on 15 September 2016 in Johannesburg, Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal concurrently. Attended by over 1000 people, the event showcased projects completed in the previous year that demonstrated excellence in the use of structural steel.
