Various seating arrangements can be constructed using Terraforce products and the many different projects completed since the early 1980s demonstrate the diverse possibilities. Standard Terraforce concrete retaining blocks proved popular for stepped seating in the company’s early years. Even though this still represents the most cost effective system it has given way to the more sophisticated Terraforce 4x4 Multi block.
At the new public transport hub in Athlone, Cape Town, Terraforce concrete retaining blocks have been used to ease the flow of pedestrian traffic and offer informal seating in the forecourt of the centre. Strategically situated at the intersection of the N2 highway and Vanguard Drive, this R100 million provincial government development provides a central hub for public transport and vehicle related issues.
Terraforce concrete retaining blocks, manufactured by Terraforce lincensee Klapmuts Concrete, featured in three award-winning projects among the Concrete Manufacturers Association Awards for Excellence 2010.
The Terraforce 4x4 Multi Step block was developed originally to be used with Terraforce retaining blocks in order to provide for stairway access up and down retaining walls. The Multi Step blocks soon became popular not only for stairways but to create comfortable, practical seating arrangements at school sports fields and other recreational facilities.
