Cost savings on concrete paved roads

The Royal Bafokeng Administration (RBA) in the North West Province is saving some R13 million annually on the low-maintenance requirement of over 300km of concrete block paving (CBP) roads. Moreover, the programme has created substantial employment and empowerment opportunities for residents in the Royal Bafokeng’s 28 villages. The programme began in 1996 when the RBA chose to use the CBP system rather than the more commonly used asphalt alternative for the surfacing of roads in its villages.
