There are now 950 retail outlets supporting the SA Paint Manufacturing Association’s (SAPMA) campaign to remove leaded paint from store shelves in South Africa. This was announced by Deryck Spence, executive director of SAPMA, at the association’s recent annual general meeting. Reporting on SAPMA’s mission to expand membership, Spence said there had been particularly strong progress in the retail sector. “Among the 950 outlets with SAPMA membership are major groups such as Mica and DIY Depot as well as various outlets that have joined individually. We are confident that our membership will increase in this sector, although there are still retailers selling paint who do not see themselves as part of the paint industry,” he said.
