Lafarge launches new ceiling grid

On Tuesday 19 March Lafarge Gypsum customers from across Gauteng gathered at Montecasino, in Johannesburg for the launch of Lafarge Gypsum’s new ceiling grid. The Lafarge Master Grid will replace the former ceiling product from Lafarge, the Gridlock Ceiling Grid.

Official ‘green’ listing for gypsum plasterboard

Lafarge Gypsum South Africa recently announced the official listing of Lafarge Plasterboard on ecospecifier South Africa. In addition to Lafarge’s technical fire-check and moisture-check boards, the range of 6.4mm, 12mm and 15mm Lafarge Plasterboards have been labelled ‘green’. According to Jean-Paul Croze, managing director of Lafarge Gypsum South Africa, the key focus for the company is to create a sustainable environmental footprint by producing products profiled for the future using the most advanced technology. “We want to provide solutions as close to specification requirements as possible to allow architects and interior designers the flexibility to adapt design concepts without compromising the environment.”

Looking to sustainability in transport

The Lafarge Group was listed on the global Dow Jones Sustainability Index in 2010, in recognition of its sustainable development actions. The group set itself a target of 20% reduction of CO2 per ton between 1990 and 2010 and surpassed this target by achieving a 21.7% reduction. Lafarge has now gone one step further in its sustainability initiatives, embarking on a CO2 reduction plan targeted around its transport and distribution.

Gypsum board for ceilings and walls

South Africa is one of the few countries in the world using the 6.4mm thick Jumbo® Plasterboard in residential ceiling applications, as well as in commercial construction. This board is one of the new residential products available from Lafarge Gypsum. Although it is only 6.4 mm thick, it offers the rigidity and core strength for easy handling on construction sites as well as allowing for nail pull and ensuring clean cuts when it is trimmed for use.
