The living building challenge

The International Living Building Institute is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the creation of a truly sustainable built environment in all countries around the world. The Living Building Challenge is a program initially launched by the Cascadia Green Building Council and has quickly become the most advanced green building rating system in the world.  The program was conceived and originally authored by Jason F. McLennan, CEO of Cascadia prior to joining the organization.

GBCSA Convention and Exhibition 2011

The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) is hosting its fourth annual Convention and Exhibition, sponsored by Nedbank Corporate Property Finance, in Cape Town 26 to 28 October.  “Green buildings can reduce energy consumption by more than half, and even existing businesses and homes can benefit substantially from the latest, greenest leaps in sustainability,” says Bruce Kerswill, executive chairman of the GBCSA. “Green building makes sense – not just for the sake of the planet but also for the sake of our pockets.”

Mainstreaming green building

The 3rd annual Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) Convention & Exhibition takes place this year from 20 to 22 September in Cape Town. For the third year running, Nedbank Corporate Property Finance is the main sponsor of the event.  It seems fitting that the Nedbank Group recently announced its achievement of carbon neutral status. This accomplishment, across the group’s head office, regional buildings and more than 490 branches, makes it the first African financial services organisation to achieve effective zero carbon status.
