South African architect, Heidi van Eeden, was announced as the winner in the Next Generation category in the Regional LafargeHolcim Awards for her work in developing new sustainable methods of brick-making in the Soshanguve township in Gauteng.
The Holcim Awards 2014 Africa Middle East focus mainly on enhancing social and environmental resilience, as well as the economy of construction. Twelve projects to be implemented in nine countries, were recognised with a total of $330 000 in prize money.
