Waterproofing and insulation in one

abeproof thermo-shield, a new heat-shielding and waterproofing product from a.b.e. Construction Chemicals, was used recently to waterproof a large roof area of the Sunbel building in Voortrekker Road, Bellville, Cape Town.  abeproof thermo-shield is a water-based waterproofing membrane which incorporates advanced insulation technology. It contains fine spherical particles that minimise the surface temperature on roofs and walls by re-emitting most of the radiant heat energy away from the building before it can reach the interior. As a result, internal temperatures are kept low and the energy costs required to cool the building are reduced.

Attractive waterproofing for Cape residence

a.b.e Construction Chemicals’ Index Fidia waterproofing system was selected for both functional and aesthetic reasons for a new roof at a Simon’s Town residence.  The product was applied on a new timber roof and substructure that covers an outdoor entertainment and braai area. Set against the mountain, the multi-level main house overlooks these recreational areas so a waterproofing system that would be easy on the eye was essential.

Heat-reflective coating to reduce interior temperatures

Leading South African coatings manufacturer Kansai Plascon has introduced a new paint technology with the launch of Nuroof Cool, with the Herotech Enviroshield™ formulation. This breakthrough paint technology provides a coating that reflects at least 30% of the infrared light off roof surfaces, reducing the interior temperature of homes or other buildings by up to 8°C and potentially allowing for lower energy consumption within the building.
