Colour and workability in BRT concrete

  The distinctive red pigmentation in the bus lanes of Cape Town’s new Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system was supplied by Chryso SA. Anthony Venier, regional manager for Chryso in the Western Cape, says the company provided Lanxess red oxide for the red colouring sought by the City of Cape Town to establish an attractive colour contrast in the bus lanes, which run within busy streets in the city. Venier says the choice of pigmentation was important for the BRT lanes as they will be subjected to the Cape’s harsh climatic conditions, particularly in exposed, windy areas such as Table View and Milnerton.
