Adding colour and workability to concrete paving

Products supplied by Chryso SA have been used in the construction of new paving surfaces in Port Elizabeth. Patrick Flannigan, commercial sales manager for Chryso SA in the Eastern Cape, says the company’s Chryso Plast Omega 101 admixture was used to add workability to the concrete mix used for new exposed aggregate paving at the Donkin Memorial in the city as well as the public areas around the Port Elizabeth City Hall.

Roof repairs at Coega Kop Reservoir

 Sika products were selected for the job when a fast and effective solution was required to repair the damaged concrete roof structure of the Eastern Cape Coega Kop Reservoir during its construction. Tricky weather conditions at the construction site – with exceptionally high temperatures and wind speeds – had caused the concrete to dry too quickly and resulted in the concrete roof structure being damaged while it was being constructed. Coega Development Corporation contracted MCS (Multi Contract Specialists) to repair the concrete structure quickly and to waterproof the internal joints of the reservoir.

Repairs and rehabilitation at Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg campus

The University of Stellenbosch awarded the multimillion rand renovation contract for its buildings on the Tygerberg Campus, which is home to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, to Drake & Scull Facilities Management. The work is being executed by The Construction Co. The campus had seen only minimal repairs carried out over the past 35 years and the university recognised the need for extensive renovation.

Specialised construction products at Kusile Power Station

Planning for Eskom’s second new coal-fired power station, Kusile, started in 2007 and construction work began on the 5 200-hectare site, 40km outside Witbank in Mpumalanga, in 2008. While the primary contract is for the boilers and turbines, the main civil engineering contract was awarded to Stefanutti Stocks, Group 5, Basil Read and WBHO Construction who joined forces to form Kusile Civil Works Joint Venture.  The JV specified a wide range of Sika’s versatile products in Phase 1 of the project which involved construction of the power station buildings, administration buildings, a high voltage yard and roads.
