Sika impresses Medupi engineers

In May 2013, a large Sika project commenced at Eskom’s Medupi Power Station in Lephalale, Limpopo. Engineers at Nyeleti Consulting specified numerous specialist Sika products for repairs and protection of various areas of the plant. Contractors, BKV Holdings in a joint venture with Multi Contracts Specialists were subcontracted for the application of Sika products, which included supporting products for substrate preparations, and final coating products from the Sikagard and Sikalastic 800 series.

Sika seals prison roofing

Situated in the suburb of Tokai in Cape Town, is Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison, famous for once having Nelson Mandela as an inmate. More recently, the Department of Public Works approved a contract to waterproof the entire roofing area of the prison. Engineers, Nadeson Consulting Services, chose one of Sika’s pure polyurea membranes for the project. Contractors responsible for the application were Superway Construction and SPA, as sub-contractors.

Steel Awards 2011 – all the winners

The overall winner and the winning projects in each of the different categories of Steel Awards 2011 reflect the outstanding quality of the steel construction industry in all its diversity. Dr Hennie de Clercq, executive director of the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC), said at the awards ceremony, “We congratulate the winners and, at the same time, emphasise the exceptional quality of all the entries, which augurs so well for the future of our industry.”  The Steel Awards, hosted by the SAISC, with the Aveng Group as the main sponsor, were staged simultaneously in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town on 15th September 2011.
