Saint-Gobain Gyproc prides itself in providing innovative solutions for a variety of construction challenges including growth, energy efficiency and environmental protection.
One such construction challenge is the need for lead free walling systems for areas where x-rays are conducted. To meet this challenge, Saint-Gobain Gyproc has launched Xroc™ – a lead-free board protection system that absorbs the electromagnetic energy from x-rays and converts it into harmless heat.
Excessive exposure to x-rays by healthcare staff who operate the equipment, or to people in adjacent areas, can be harmful, placing great emphasis on the provision of adequate protection utilising building materials used within this highly regulated environment.
Aimed at clientele such as architects, developers and other professionals who work within the healthcare sector, this new interiors innovation is fast to install and is fully recyclable as the board is based on a barium sulphate, an effective x-ray protection material, very similar in environmental credentials to gypsum. Xroc™ has been independently tested and certified at an international standard and found safe for use as an X-ray protection solution.
Xroc™ is lighter and easier to cut and fix than lead-lined boards and boasts high levels of sound insulation, an ideal product attribute to ensure that patient confidentiality isn’t compromised and unwanted noise from adjacent spaces reduced. The performance of this x-ray protection system will also not deteriorate over its lifetime and supports hospital developers’ objectives to created sound, safe and healing environments.
Furthermore this system has been tested for fire resistance of up to 120min – which in the event of a fire emergency will help to prevent the fire from spreading to escape routes, aiding in overall staff and patient safety.
Saint-Gobain Gyproc can now offer a complete range of solutions for even more areas within a healthcare building.
