Growing interest in uPVC windows and doors

Rehau’s uPVC Euro-Design sliding doors satisfy the SANS requirements for energy efficiency in buildings as pertaining to windows and doors. Since being introduced to the South African market in mid-2012, the Rehau uPVC Euro-Design sliding patio doors have attracted increasing attention from specifiers, prospective manufacturing partners and installers who appreciate the product as a cost-effective and top-performing option.

This growing interest arises primarily from the market’s recognition that uPVC products satisfy the main requirements of SANS 10400-XA, now part of South Africa’s National Building Regulations, which stipulates that new buildings must conform to the building energy efficiency standards set out in the SANS 204 specification.

The performance of the Euro-Design slider in high ultraviolet (UV) environments differentiates it from competitors and has already been proven in domestic and commercial installations in Australia and Brazil. Single laminated 6.38mm safety glass and double glazing both meet South Africa’s criteria for energy-efficient buildings – making the Euro-Design slider ideal for a variety of applications – and the range includes the option of a six-panel sliding door.

The manufacturing formula that has made this product suitable for use in other UV-intense climates is also demonstrating its effectiveness in South African installations, in terms of both energy efficiency and non-discolouration. The weathering characteristics of the local product are based on SABS criteria for uPVC windows and doors and Rehau provides a guarantee that these products will not discolour.

The other uPVC doors and windows in Rehau’s extensive range of energy-efficient windows and doors are established leaders in overseas markets, with extensive data to support their energy-saving potential.

Rehau uPVC patio door designs are supplied through a network of authorised, independent fabricators and installers who have undergone extensive training to ensure consistent, world class quality standards. Rehau also conducts regular, ongoing quality checks within this network and provides technical support to manufacturers, installers and end-users countrywide.

These days many specifiers and home owners tend to dismiss underfloor heating as an impractical consideration for interior heating. Fear of Eskom’s price hikes and the cost of electricity today have, understandably, led to resistance to installing underfloor heating.

EnviroFix is produced by distributing a uniform layer of sodium bentonite between two durable outer layers of geotextile. Sodium bentonite is a naturally occurring clay mineral that swells considerably upon hydration. When this occurs under confinement, a lining is formed with a permeability so low it equates to that of approximately one metre of compacted clay.
