A variety of seating arrangements have been built using Terraforce products since the early 1980’s.
Grassroots seating uses standard Terraforce retaining blocks and was very popular in the early years. While it still represents the most cost effective method, it has been steadily losing ground to the more sophisticated system of using the 4 x 4 step block.
Initially, the 4×4 step block was intended for low retaining walls and smaller steps, but soon became very popular not only for stairway access, but to provide comfortable, practical stairs and seating arrangements at leisure amenities and school sport facilities. The blocks can be stacked, interlocking at the corners to form gentle curves and varying wall angles, but it is by turning the unit on its side to create steps that has made it so successful at creating small to medium-sized seating arrangements.
The 4 x 4 multi step block provides cost-effective and versatile stairways and seating arrangements. Like other Terraforce products, it is now available on five continents.
Cost effective and hard-wearing seating arrangements can be built from a shallow 23° inclination to a recommended maximum of 39°.
Construction methods may vary slightly but, provided the contractor has taken no shortcuts, the installation will be functional and aesthetically pleasing.
