Corrosion-free light fittings for coastal applications

The new CNC aluminium range of corrosion-free light fittings from Radiant includes single and double up/down wall lights.Radiant Lighting and Electrical (Radiant) is introducing two new ranges of corrosion-free light fittings – one of CNC aluminium and the other a cutting edge Italian import that makes use of technopolymers and polyglass.

Radiant director of product development, Chris Calitz says, “Over the past 12 months, we’ve been scouring the market to source solutions to the age-old challenge of providing corrosion-free light fittings for coastal applications.

“While Radiant’s existing 316 stainless steel range is up to the challenge, it’s not maintenance-free,” says Calitz. “Sand and salt residue can collect in crevices and in countersunk screws over time, especially when holiday homes are left unattended for long periods. This residue needs to be removed with a special product available only from selected dealers.”

The new CNC aluminium range – anodised and salt-water tested for reliability – expands the selection of corrosion-free light fittings available locally.

“The CNC products are manufactured in South Africa for local conditions and they carry a three-year warranty,” says Calitz. At present Radiant offers single and double up/down wall lights as well as surface-mount options, including a surface-mount tilt-and-swivel, spot version.

The imported Italian range, which is to be introduced in early to mid-2011, is specially designed, tested and produced for use in coastal conditions. The light fittings are manufactured from combinations of polycarbonate, technopolymers, PMMA, glass and polyglass. This range will be available in colour combinations of clear, frost, green, black, white, copper, satin silver and chrome. All the fittings are equipped to accommodate energy-saving lamps – direct screw-in options as well as those fitted with electronic control gear.

“Flexibility and ease of installation were key criteria in our selection of this range,” Calitz notes. “It includes flush wall lights that can be easily fitted to angle brackets or combined with post lighting.”

This range will be distributed solely by Radiant and will be available from all reputable lighting outlets. The light fittings will carry a five-year warranty.
