Hyde Park hotel chose Cobra

Dozens of new hospitality industry projects were completed in time for the Soccer World Cup – and most developments used mainly locally produced quality products.

One such example is the Southern Sun Hyde Park Hotel which was completed in October 2009 at a cost of R197-million.

When it came to choosing taps and mixers for the public and private areas of the 132-room hotel, the designers had clearly set their minds on the Cobra brand of quality product ranges.

Joe Fahry, Cobra Watertech’s Specifications Manager for Gauteng, said Cobra Watertech was the preferred South African supplier because it provides excellent service back-up and is a world leader in its field. He said the Southern Sun Group has an ongoing commitment to locally manufactured, high quality products – and Cobra was the obvious choice.

Fahry emphasised that apart from the robust and cutting edge design, Cobra products were competitively priced when compared to top global brands in the market. The Hyde Park chose Cobra’s Leading Edge range for the public areas and the Taryn range in the hotel’s 132 luxury bathrooms.

The Taryn range features a 35mm temperature and flow control cartridge, an anti-lime aerator and is available with a standard or minimalist handle. Included in the range are three basin mixer options, an underwall bath/ shower diverter mixer and a sink mixer, with a unique flexible swivel outlet.

The Taryn range is especially designed for local conditions and incorporates quality compression type head parts.

Plumbing design consultant, Gavin Pereira said: “I think local property developers are realising that the quality of Cobra products are in many cases equal to its European counterparts. The after-sales service received from Cobra is also a positive factor in the selection process. Using locally manufactured products ensures greater flexibility on future refurbishments and upgrades because there will be no need to replace the entire mixer or tap”.

Pereira went on to say that Cobra’s premier “Leading Edge” range was selected for the hotel’s public areas to give a strong feeling of opulence and elegant style.

“The Taryn range was used in the rooms, as a more cost effective option, but still giving an elegant feel.”

All Cobra products are supplied with SABS certification along with Cobra’s 10-year guarantee on taps and mixers as well as service back up.
