Cold storage floor signed, sealed and delivered

Installing the laser screeded concrete floor at the new cold storage warehouse; the floor was then treated with Sikafloor-Curehard-24At the recently completed PE Cold Storage warehouse in the Coega industrial development zone near Port Elizabeth, contractors Chris Howes Construction called on Sika to supply a suitable floor finishing sealant.

Sikafloor-Curehard-24, a transparent surface hardener, sealing and curing compound for concrete floors was the product selected. It met all the performance criteria for the application and its ease of use made it ideal for the quick installation required.

Sikafloor-Curehard-24 is a clear liquid, sodium silicate based compound used to cure and seal fresh or hardened concrete and to enhance the chemical and abrasion resistance of the concrete. It also reduces dusting of concrete floors, reduces water loss from new concrete during setting, makes for easy cleaning of the finished floor and prevents staining. It offers good penetration and is solvent free, colourless and odourless.

At the new warehouse, very dense concrete was laid for the 22 000 square metres floor using a Somero SXP laser screed and the surface was smoothly finished using a power trowel. Sika supplied 3 600 litres of Sikafloor-Curehard-24 for the installation, allowing for two coats of the product to be applied at twice the normal coverage over the whole floor area. In application, the sealant was agitated with brooms to optimise penetration of the dense concrete floor and the excess was removed using squeegees. The entire floor was completed in just 16 days.

Sika is a leading supplier of speciality chemicals for wide ranging applications in the construction industry.
