Floor and pool finish used at the Ukhozi Lodge at the Kariega Game Reserve. Cemcrete, cement manufacturers of distinctive decorative coatings captured the romance and intimacy of Africa with the finishes used on the floors and private plunge pools. The Ukhozi Lodge is superbly sculptured from stone, wood and glass. The stone-coloured floor screed used was Cemcrete’s Colour Hardener, a granolithic concrete material that is floated into fresh screed or concrete which colours, strengthens and creates durable surfaces for the concrete floors. It is a special blend of cement incorporating very hard-wearing aggregates, lightfast pigments and additives which set rock-hard.
The colour hardener can be used for interior and exterior floors. Colour hardener floors should be designed with expansion control joints incorporated into them, which will minimize the risk of large unsightly cracks when subjected to large changes in temperature, soil or foundation movement etc. Panel sizes should be as symmetrical as is possible and should not exceed 9m2.
The private plunge pools at the Kariega Game Reserve used Cemcrete’s Poolcrete Charcoal coloured pool plaster. The 6mm thick smooth plaster is recommended for the interior plastering of floors and walls of swimming pools, which becomes a very hard integral part of the pool structure. The benefits of using this pool plaster are that it is durable and can be applied to new or renovated pools. The trowel-on application has proven to last over 40 years. Poolcrete is one of the first products manufactured by Cemcrete during inception in 1973 and has been used in more than 250 000 swimming pools all over the world.
