Reliable infrastructure solutions for a sustainable tomorrow

Borealis and Borouge are leading providers of innovative plastics solutions that create value for society. Building on their proprietary Borstar® and Borlink™ technologies and 50 years of experience in polyolefins, Borealis and Borouge support key industries including infrastructure, automotive and advanced packaging. Their manufacturing capacity reaches over 5.4 million tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene per year. Borealis is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and operates in over 120 countries with around 6,500 employees worldwide.

Borealis and Borouge proactively benefit society by taking on today’s challenges and are working to drive ideas forward. Both companies are committed to the principles of Responsible Care®, driving improved safety performance within the chemical industry and contributing to addressing the world’s water and sanitation challenges through product innovation and their Water for the World™ programme.

According to the UN Sustainable Development Goals; billions of people – mostly in rural areas – still lack access to clean drinking water and sanitation. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the critical importance of sanitation, hygiene and adequate access to clean water to prevent and contain the disease. Since 2007, Borealis and Borouge contribute to addressing the global water crisis through their Water for the World programme. This joint programme aims to advance solutions, expertise and know-how to address the global water challenge in local communities.

Water for the World focuses on three key areas:

  • Improving access to water and sanitation through local projects
  • Preserving water resources through sustainable water management practices
  • Advancing best practices and raising awareness in communities and across the value-chain

The company believes that by offering more durable and reliable pipe solutions, they continue to boost the sustainability of pipe networks by making them safer, longer-lasting and more efficient. This helps eliminate wastage and loss whilst at the same time offering energy savings. In addition, the materials are able to support the needs of the construction and industrial sectors by providing solutions such as geomembranes and others.

Water and sanitation systems made of conventional pipe materials sometimes struggle with water losses as high as 50%. Fully welded polyethylene and polypropylene pipe systems significantly reduce leakage and hence the most efficient and reliable solutions.
