World-Class Production Facility

Belgotex Floors operate a world-class production facility from our factory in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

As a vertically integrated company with a strong focus on innovation, quality and environmental imperatives, our backwards integration structure gives us complete control over our production processes. From raw materials and extrusion to tufting or needling, through backing to warehousing and distribution, our entire set up is designed to maximise operational efficiency whilst minimising any negative impacts on the environment. This not only gives us control over the quality of our products and ensures unprecedented speed to market, but also allows us the flexibility to explore new ideas.“We are continuously upgrading our machinery, introducing new ranges with up-to-the-minute yarn technology, and pushing the limits for operational efficiency,” explains chief operations officer Kevin Walsh. New, advanced equipment offers better quality at higher speeds, a more diverse product range at various price points, as well as cost-effective manufacturing processes that are more ecologically sustainable.

In November 2013, we installed 10 000m2 (1.2 hectares) of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on the roof of our factory. This project is to generate one to one and a half megawatt hour of electricity per annum – about five percent of our annual energy requirement – and move us towards more sustainable energy. Finally, we also acquired South Africa’s first Erema recycling line to recycle our polypropylene and production waste for reuse in the production of our recycled Eco Fibre.

Culture of Innovation

At Belgotex, we pride ourselves on our culture of innovation and being pioneers in the flooring sector. Our mission is to lead by design and be the first to introduce the latest flooring technology. In fact, our planned obsolescence strategy demands it.

“Innovation is part of our DNA and we aim to be the first to market with the latest hi-tech advances. We stay abreast of international trends and developments and capitalise on the production capabilities of our machines, constantly exploring new production processes and developing new product ranges,” explains Chief Executive Frank Moffat.

As market leaders, Belgotex have established and grown our market share through Technological Innovation: always aiming to be the first-to-market with the latest fibre and manufacturing technology and specialising in what we term “technical marketing”.

We spend significant resources investing in capital expenditure to purchase sophisticated machinery, as well as creating awareness and understanding of the new technologies and products through extensive advertising and public relations campaigns.

Global Player

Close to Africa’s busiest port in Durban and centrally placed on world trade routes, today Belgotex products are distributed to over 40 countries worldwide from our state-of-the-art 100 000 square meter mill. We’re no run-of-the-mill floorcovering operation and credit our passion for product and pioneering spirit for our leadership position in South Africa’s residential and commercial markets.

The company enjoys a significant market share in South Africa, offering various soft floorcoverings graded for specific market segments. Indoors or out, our high quality products are suitable for use in homes, offices, retail/commercial outlets, hospitality centres, high-spec health and education centres, landscaped environments or specialist sports facilities. Many of our broadloom or modular carpet ranges, luxury vinyls and artificial lawns form the foundations for leading financial institutions, company head offices, hotels and restaurants, upmarket homes and even airport lounges. Our Specialised Products Division includes GreenFields Sports Turf Systems, Duraturf artificial lawn, Sportec rubber floors and a variety of vinyl products suited to various applications. These range from popular luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) and cushioned vinyls, to more technical, specialised products such as medical vinyl for the healthcare sector, low electrostatic vinyl for server rooms, specialised non-slip vinyl solutions for gyms and sports centres to Vinyl Composite Tiles (VCT) ranges for schools or canteens.

International demand for the company’s higher end residential and commercial products is also growing, both for their unique design and quality construction. Exports are a growing contributor to annual turnover with increases anticipated due to favorable currency conversions and our extensive product bundle. Through a network of agents in Africa, Europe and the East, with direct representation in Australasia, Belgotex Floors sales of broadloom carpets and tiles abroad is poised for further growth with yarn and fibre sold to selected international markets only.
