Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, Botswana, is being extended substantially to accommodate the anticipated increase in the number of airline passengers and especially tourists likely to visit the country during the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.
Bitcon Industries has secured the contract for the supply of fire doors for the new passenger terminal at the airport.
Bob Vollmer, director of Bitcon in Jet Park, says the company is supplying a large quantity of its Rubidor hinged fire doors and frames for both phases of the project.
The order was secured by Ludo Vets, general manager of the local Mercurio Trade office. Mercurio Trade is the official Botswana agent for the Vitrex Group, of which both Bitcon and Mercurio Trade are members.
A subsidiary of Vitrex since 1998, Bitcon operates from a high-technology plant in Jet Park where the company’s respected Rubidor fire doors are produced, as well as Bitcon security, lead-lined, and transformer room doors.
Rubidor Class A, B and D hinged and sliding fire doors fulfil the requirements of the South African National Test Standard SANS 1253:2003. The door cores are constructed from a magnesium oxychloride monolithic reinforced insulating material with excellent fire resistance and mechanical strength. Compliance with the National Test Standard is based on successful tests for stability, integrity, insulation and impact resistance.
The doors can be clad with a variety of finishes including Masonite, timber veneers, or Formica laminates, and edged with hardwood lipping. Double doors are fitted with stainless steel meeting stiles. Bitcon’s Class D doors are manufactured with a galvanised mild steel cladding or can be finished with a veneer to conceal the steel cladding.
