JSE-listed steel processor and supplier, BSi Steel, established a dedicated roofing division in May last year, based at the company’s central steel processing and distribution centre in Kliprivier, Midvaal.
The BSi Steel Group has seen strong growth over the past year and Alan Havenga, manager of the roofing division says, “Roofing is an important aspect of the steel industry. Creating this division is a logical step forward for BSi Steel, to support the company’s plans for expansion into the structural steel industry.”
Havenga says that BSi Steel has invested more than R28 million in the roofing division to ensure that it can produce the highest quality products, compliant with ISO 9001:2000 quality control standards.
The roofing division has already grown significantly and Havenga is confident that BSi Steel will continue to increase its market share with the supply of low-cost housing roofing kits – which are made up of lipped channel, cranked wide-span roof sheets, 4mm galvanised wire and fasteners. The company is currently supplying roofing kits to contractors who have been awarded tenders for the construction of more than 13 000 low-cost homes in the Free State.
The roofing division focuses on three roofing profiles: inverted box rib (IBR), wide-span IBR – both of which are available with or without the strengthening rib – and S-profiled corrugated steel. It produces roofing from its stock range of materials – from thin-gauge steel to more expensive colour-coated steel.
