Seminars on concrete retaining block walls

The Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA) will host two further half-day afternoon seminars on the design, construction and reinforcing of concrete retaining block (CRB) walls, following the first which was held in Johannesburg in July. The seminars will be held in Cape Town on 30th September and in Durban on 1st October.

The CMA has run similar seminars for engineers and contractors since 2006. Director of the association, John Cairns, says the seminars are being presented to address the recurring problem of poorly constructed and inadequately specified CRB walls. Retaining walls that are vulnerable to collapse present a danger to people and can cause costly damages to property.

The seminars are presented by experts in the field offering their knowledge and experience to those who want to learn more about effective design and construction of CRB walls. The events are registered with SAICE (South African Institution of Civil Engineering) and participants will qualify for continuing professional development (CPD) points.
