In the construction of hotels and apartments, particularly, bathrooms can be one of the most problematic areas, notorious for causing delays and impacting negatively on finished quality, when traditional bathroom building methods are used. Grant Vollmer, sales manager at Vitrex for the Eurosan range of vitreous enamelled steel baths, says that as well as delivering factory manufactured quality, “prefabricated bathrooms allow for faster construction by reducing the need for skilled labour on site.
The pods are lightweight, self-supporting bathroom cells, consisting of dry walling, ceiling and floor, and supplied as a compact, modular system. The sanitary fixtures and fittings are ready-fitted. For the Radisson Blu in Sandton, built by GD Irons Construction, the pods were transported to site and craned and wheeled into position. Once they are in place, installation connections can be completed within hours. Vitrex’s Eurosan baths are made from vitreous enamelled, ‘porcelain’ steel which is produced by fusing three layers of glass to sheet steel at temperatures of over 800º Celsius. The absence of crevices and pores in the vitreous enamel surface inhibits the presence of mould and bacteria while also making the smooth surfaces easy to clean.
“The Eurosan bath surfaces are resistant to abrasion and impervious to water and common chemicals, so will not warp, deteriorate or discolour with time,” Vollmer adds. “Eurosan baths are available in a wide range of colours and these durable baths and shower trays are the only porcelain-coated units produced locally.”
