Decorex Joburg 2011 unveils beauty and the basics at the biggest and best showcase ever

Decorex Joburg celebrates its 18th year with the ultimate roundup of what’s now and happening with hall after hall brimming with newly unveiled home products, fashion-forward trend predictions, themed pavilions, and design-minded seminars with international speakers.
Marking this milestone exhibition with a directional theme ‘Beauty and the Basics’, this five-day décor and interior design extravaganza reflects South African design sensibility and the latest international thinking emerging on the home scene.
Igniting the inner interior decorator in the visitor are the out-of-the-box roomscapes and concept stands, placing the searchlight on trends and local design talent. With the hand-made revolution heading for the stratosphere, new show features celebrate the ‘proudly self-made’ phenomenon with free theatre demonstrations, expert advice on colour and new techniques guiding a new generation of ‘make-it-myself’ enthusiasts.
Advocating an earth-friendly lifestyle, the show sprouts a whole new genre of eco-caring products, planet-saving inventiveness and bee-friendly landscaping.
Also expect halls filled with the latest in colour and textile trends, bathrooms with all the latest technology on tap, kitchens to lure the connoisseurs and interior landscapes to thrill the trend-seekers. With over 700 exhibitors, Decorex Joburg aspires to bring the biggest and best ever interior design expo to Joburg, a city famed for its creativity and design revival.

Get gardening: Gardens with a purpose is the garden trend flourishing at a brand new gardening focus at the show. This is where aspiring gardeners, urban farmers, eco warriors and green guardians can discover the bliss of intentional gardening. Attend live demos in the Garden Theatre to sprout fresh ideas and a Garden Café inspired by the locavore food movement. To get those creative juices flowing, wander through six themed gardens that show just how amazing your patch of earth can be.
Six themed gardens offer endless ideas for show visitors eager to don their garden gloves: explore a Harvester’s Haven or the playful Kid’s Garden; a Garden with Wings celebrating the wild and the wonderful; Rooftop Retreats for urban dwellers; Soil and Sanctuary – a themed therapeutic garden and Kaleidoscope showing off hardscaping as an essential element of landscaping.
Plascon unveils the 2012 Colour Forecast: Laurence Brick, Tonic Design, Goed and A-Point - four leading lights in the interior design world, take on the colourful challenge of interpreting the coming year’s hottest hues. Will yellow be the wonder child? Will royal blue beg to be heard? Plascon Colour guru Anne Roselt will be on hand to talk all things colour trend and make that problem wall an absolute delight.
Plascon Palatte Café: A spot to relax and rejuvenate with on-trend organic, wholesome food in a rustic and natural setting. Enjoy the four new Plascon colour palettes integrated with this food experience.
Fine finishes & rejuvenation area: For options and answers on fine finishes, this area is dedicated to making sure visitors leave with a plan and clear direction. From smart surfaces, sustainable floor coverings and window treatments with the wow-factor, expect nothing less from our top-drawer collection of expert exhibitors.
South African Handmade Collection: Held alongside Decorex Joburg, this dti-initiative is a window to the heartfelt and the handmade. From highly collectable ceramics and fashionable ‘it’ bags to award-winning fabrics, the creations selected for this all-important trade show are a particularly colourful balance of heritage and innovation.
District Delicious: Botanical cuisine! Food cocooning! This food haven is dedicated to the senses and includes a blend of gourmet food, wine, kitchen gadgets and home entertaining have-to-haves. Making a return to the show is the Delicious Theatre, kitted out with the latest Whirlpool appliances. This state of the art kitchen is where local chefs and foodies talk food, share tips and teach you how to WOW guests.
Decorex Designer Collection re-launches as must-have decor pieces designed exclusively for the show’s range of home objet. Ten fashion-forward pieces will be launched by ten local designers to make sure all visitors leave with their fix of home-grown interior design.
Conversations on Architecture (full day conference, 5th August- Johannesburg & 11 August – Cape Town): A diverse line-up of international and local industry players present their challenging insights on architecture and the built environment. Key international speakers join local leading lights at this highly-regarded industry forum.
The All things Green House by Inside Living is the hub of a special pavilion dedicated to eco-living. This stand showcases how to go green with solutions for the entire home, set up in a way that is easy to envision, as well as offering the opportunity to sit down and talk to a consultant. In the rest of the pavilion, green flourishes with an array of eco-caring design options to make your carbon footprint go down a size.
Kitchens and bathrooms: Visitors can browse the luxe line-up of kitchen and bathroom essentials, and experience expert advice and money-saving ideas on tap. From blissful brassware and the latest in bath tubs, to tools for cooks, the lineup of exhibitors is extensive.
The DStv Theatre of Ideas: Visitors get the inside scoop on inventive solutions to décor dilemmas while brushing up on DIY-skills. Expect a block-buster programme filled with make-it-yourself inspiration. From paint techniques to picture framing, DIY, easy entertaining advice for table setting and flower arranging, get the inspiration and know-how to do it all yourself.
BOS Bar by Desmond Archibald Interiors: Inspired by the cool South African organic rooibos ice tea brand this on-trend relaxation space, designed exclusively for Decorex Joburg, shows how modern the tradition of tea-drinking can be.
Go global: A must-attend for trade visitors eager to search the globe for new opportunities and trade connections is the comprehensive International Pavilion dedicated to countries from Italy to India, Egypt to Syria. Submerge yourself in the allure of Indian silk and the touch of Egyptian cotton.

Villiera Wines Cap Classique Bar by Forest Flooring is where the unexpected happens, where landscape and cityscapes from two continents merge effortlessly: Rustic wooden tables and white washed floors echo the simplicity of the austere Karoo, while contemporary furniture reflects Europe’s edgy design sensibility.
