ABP Building Products, specialist in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of alternative building systems that support energy efficiency, has changed its name, because of a naming rights conflict, to Eco Building Systems.
Rodney van Dam of Eco Building Systems says, “We focus primarily on using expanded polystyrene systems (EPS) to provide building products that withstand the impacts of rising building, energy and labour costs. With the promulgation of new energy efficiency legislation in the National Building Regulations, our products are playing a greater role in the South African building environment.
“Eco Building Systems creates composite building systems that address the need for thermal efficiency, efficient use of labour and speed of installation and we provide a comprehensive range of support services that includes design, costing and engineering.”
The Eco Building Systems range includes the Polyblock ICF system, which is an insulated, lightweight building block that acts as a formwork for reinforced concrete infill. It makes for quick and easy building of walls and houses.
TASS – the Thermal and Acoustic Suspended Slab system – is a patented ‘rib and block’ floor slab system that can be used in multi-storey buildings. It combines a purpose-designed cold rolled steel ‘rib’ with expanded polystyrene void formers.
Eco Building Systems has recently launched its new Thermapour, which is a pourable, insulating material designed for use in cavity walls as well as under concrete floors and in flat concrete roofs.
Also in the range is an under-concrete ground floor insulating system – Thermapanel – which, as well as providing insulation, serves as a protection membrane preventing moisture ingress under conventional ground floor slabs.
The company also supplies ancillary products like EPS plasters and glues, which complement its building systems.
Eco Building Systems has been involved in numerous building projects across South Africa and central Africa since 2002. These range from low-cost to luxury housing developments as well as eco-housing, education centres and other buildings. The company continues to operate from its Johannesburg offices with specialist engineering design expertise from MRH Consulting Engineers.
