In a culture of immediate gratification, the selection and purchasing of blinds has turned into a commodity available over hardware store counters and online shops, flooding the market with cut and paste window dressing solutions that ignore any design sense.
With quick progression from order to payment to delivery, few analyse why and how the process is possible at such head-spinning speed. The answer is as expected – compromise. Compromising quality, bespoke finishes and true customisation for the sake of immediate gratification.
Quality is worth waiting for and most understand and accept this when buying property and quality finishes, but somehow blinds have slipped from their rightful position as a fixture that has profound and profitable impact on a property to a home décor store shopping list item.
Most blinds are imported in bulk and then cut to size locally according to the specification supplied with order. The result is that the customer has a limited choice of finishes and very few, if any, features can be customised to their unique needs.
“Because our wooden slat blinds are custom manufactured we offer the largest range of features and finishes on the South African market,” says Stephen Palmer, managing director of AMERICAN shutters. “With a palette of 50 stains and colours to choose from as well as the option to custom finish our wooden slat blinds in the colour of our customer’s choice, our wooden slat blinds can truly integrate and enhance a broader interior design scheme or architecture.”
AMERICAN shutters offer a choice of two slat widths, the standard 50mm and the unique shutter-like 63mm. The wider slat not only makes their blinds the perfect companion to their range of shutters, but also elevates the blinds in aesthetic appeal and the wider openings allow in more light and ventilation.
Their range of wooden slat blinds includes 6 valance options that can be made in the same finish as that of the blinds, with the end result being a beautifully framed design feature that hides the aluminum head rail and increases the visual impact of the blinds. Decorative tapes and cloth tapes can be added to hide the ladders, which because of the custom manufacturing are guaranteed at a constant distance of 150mm from the edge.
The age-old adage is true - quality is worth waiting for.
