Battery technologies
Grand
Battery Technologies SA (Pty) Ltd. (GBT)
started in 1999 with the aim of focusing on
renewable energy. GBT started the business with
GrandCELL Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries (RAM)
which are inherently different to any other
rechargeable batteries on the market, as it is a
rechargeable replacement to the single use
alkaline 1.5 volt batteries we have
become accustomed to and use in everyday
items. Not only does this technology replace
single use batteries, it doesn’t
contain any toxic mercury, cadmium or heavy metal
which makes it environmentally friendly. GBT also
offers the GrandCELL Rechargeable Digital
Batteries which are 1.2 volt batteries and are
commonly used in digital applications. Over the last
few years GBT has extended their range of
products which now includes solar powered lighting,
namely GrandSolar.
The
reason for this is because
batteries and solar
go
hand in hand. Without a good battery you can’t expect to have a good solar
product. This is what sets us aside from other solar lighting products
on the market as we are primarily a battery company specializing in
various environmentally safe battery technologies, hence making us the
leading brand in solar powered lighting.
Each component of the GrandSolar light
ensures optimum output.
-
The stainless steel or high quality UV
resistant plastic Housing protects the electronics.
-
The Solar Panels collect the
sunlight and convert it into energy, which is used to charge he
GrandCell Rechargeable Batteries.
-
The Batteries are used at night to
power the Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s)
-
LED’s are used as they draw very
little energy from the batteries and therefore ensure longer
illumination time, they also last up to 100000 hours and therefore do
not need to be replaced.
The only component within the solar
light that requires replacing are the batteries inside, and this needs
to be done, on average, every 10 months.
GrandSolar has a wide product range
which can be divided into various categories.
Our smaller lights are called Garden
Accent Lights, these are considered atmospheric lighting and
add character to your garden landscape at night.
The Pathway lights,
start with the ‘Solar Brick’, that is embedded into one’s paving to
larger lamps that are positioned along a path, each with a minimum of 4
LED’s to provide more light to the immediate area.
Security lighting,
with or without sensors; that provides security lighting even during
power cuts.
Deco lights add colour to the night. This range includes the very popular pool balls
and extends to the decorative dragonflies and gnomes.
GrandSolar range for outside lighting is
completed by larger lighting solutions for parking, street lights,
home kits and solar panels. These can be used
for office parks, game farms and housing developments in order to reduce
the reliance on Eskom generated power for outside and inside lighting.
GrandSolar prides itself to be
associated with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support their charter
for a clean and sustainable environment. This has
become more important with the climate change crisis.
In this context, GrandSolar only uses battery technology that is
environmentally compatible and DO NOT contain any heavy
metals such as Cadmium and Mercury.
