Aluminium Federation of Southern Africa (AFSA)


Association profile

The Aluminium Federation of Southern Africa (AFSA) is an industry organisation supported by members of the aluminium industry. Membership is open to all corporations and societies in South Africa involved in the production and treatment of aluminium metal, semi-fabricated aluminium products or the distribution of aluminium through trading outlets or stockists' warehouses. AFSA acts as the coordinating body for various aluminium market sector associations with a view to assisting the development of markets. The Associations specifically active in the building and construction industry are:

  • Aluminium Surface Finishers Association (ASFA);
  • Aluminium Extruders Association (AEA); and
  • Aluminium Sheet Products Association (ASPA).

The purpose of the Federation is to assist industry members in areas where joint action is believed to benefit. AFSA seeks to strengthen the pre-competitive platform.

Industry Vision
A South African aluminium industry that is focussed on:

  • growing and developing a co-operative and outward oriented industry,
  • being well promoted both in terms of the material, aluminium, and the industry,
  • adding downstream value.

AFSA Key Objectives
AFSA's role (and the role of Associations acting under the aegis of AFSA) is to:

  • Facilitate, assist and support growth initiatives (in an enabling climate for all stakeholders) both regionally and internationally.
  • Promote the awareness of aluminium and its applications and promote the aluminium industry with input from the industry role players.
  • Assist and participate in knowledge transfers:
         - generic technology
         - product development
         - information and statistics via working linkages / synergies   
           (often working with champions)
  • Facilitate and advise in areas of education and training at appropriate levels.
  • Make mandated representations for the industry on relevant matters.

  • Specialist Courses in Architectural Aluminium;
