Locks & safes
Austen Security owes its origins to the
pioneering days of the diamond industry when William J. Austen
established a locksmithing business catering for the needs of a
growing Kimberley. As the manufacturer of the first wholly South
African safe in 1936 ,the company continued to prosper and became
known for specialized locks and safes.
The 1980’s witnessed a period of rapid
growth following a change in corporate strategy aimed at producing a
wider range of security products for the commercial sector whilst
simultaneously creating specialized products for banks and financial
institutions.
The acquisition of Murray & Roberts security
in 1986 initiated a diversification into access control and electronic
security. By the end of the 1980’s Austen Safe could justifiably claim
to be the leading producers of physical security equipment in South
Africa.
