On conventional prepainted steel, airborne particles like dirt and fungi settle on the prepainted steel surface. The combination of heat and humidity then results in the dirt bonding onto the steel surface, and fungus attack also occurs. The result is dark stains and fungus growth on the prepainted steel.
Over time, of course, this results in a building that looks dirty and aged. Because Clean Colorbond™ steel contains Microban®, fungus attack is prevented.
Additionally, Clean Colorbond™ steel retains its vibrant and beautiful colour due to its resistance to dirt bonding.
In order to prevent paint weathering, BlueScope Steel utilises optimum paint formulation and pigment blends to provide excellent long-term stability for Clean Colorbond™ steel products. The paint system has a high degree of resin stability, colour stability and UV resistance. The effectiveness of a paint system’s performance is a function of the multiple layers of coating technology working together to create an effective overall coating. The multiple coating system layers used by BlueScope Steel act in synergy, to provide superior performance and durability.
BlueScope Steel’s proprietary metallic coating technology - Zincalume® steel offers superior corrosion performance and comprises 43.5% zinc, 55.0% aluminium and 1.5% silicon, with a minimum coating of 150g/m². The zinc rich area provides excellent sacrificial protection, while the aluminium rich area provides durable barrier protection.
