Architectural and Construction
The Architectural and Construction Division of IHS SA is directed at AEC (architectural, engineering and construction) professionals. The services reach some 28 000 individuals involved in the building industry in South Africa. A variety of product formats, including magazine, CD-ROM, technical brochure libraries, guides and websites, enable the company to provide the professional building sector with tailor-made information solutions.
SPECXpert Building Industry Reference Source–This 4 CD set is issued annually and updated weekly via the internet. SPECXpert contains over 19 000 datasheets and brochures on building products, CAD drawings, brochure summaries, trade names and building products. SPECXpert provides the most extensive CD-ROM based range of building product information in South Africa. The service is supplied together with the Visual Index – a quick reference guide to products and suppliers that can be found on SPECXpert.

Specifile Building Library – The Specifile Building Library was launched in 1959 and remains popular amongst building industry professionals, such as architects, quantity surveyors and building designers. This 12 volume set of loose-leaf binders is placed in subscribers’ offices and contains technical brochures on building products available in South Africa. The Library is updated by 50 trained field librarians every quarter in all economically active towns.
